Botox FAQs

Here at our practice, Dr. Brian Johnson and his team have made it their mission to help patients look and feel their best through cosmetic dermatology and other skincare services they provide. We know that looking your best is important and that your skin plays a big part in that. This is why we offer Botox treatment. Want to learn more about Botox? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable cosmetic treatment that uses a series of thin needles containing a purified form of botulinum toxin that temporarily stops muscle groups from contracting once injected. By relaxing these muscles we can easily smooth the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles.

What cosmetic issues can Botox treat?

If you hate the lines and wrinkles that have appeared across your face as a result of squinting, laughing, or frowning then these wrinkles can easily be treated with Botox. Botox tackles dynamic wrinkles such as crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and laugh lines. It’s particularly effective for wrinkles in and around the forehead, nose, and eyebrows.

What should I expect from the Botox procedure?

One of the major advantages of getting Botox is that it’s fast and easy. This minimally invasive cosmetic procedure requires our dermatologist, Dr. Johnson, to administer a set of very thin needles into specific muscle groups of the face, based on what lines and wrinkles you want to treat. It only takes a couple of minutes to administer the needles and you can go right back to your daily routine right after. There is absolutely no downtime with Botox treatment.

Will it hurt?

Most people hear the word “needle” and become a bit squeamish. Don’t worry! First, these needles are extremely thin. Most people only notice a slight pinch when the needles enter the skin, but the discomfort is minimal and fleeting. Of course, if you are still concerned about getting Botox, talk to us about applying a topical numbing cream to the area before getting Botox.

When will my results show up and how long do they last?

Most people are surprised to hear that Botox results won’t show up right away, so don’t feel frustrated if you don’t walk out of the office with the results you were hoping for. It can take about three to four days before you start to notice the effects of this treatment, with full results appearing after one week. Of course, Botox results are only temporary, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t get maintenance treatments. Some patients choose to get Botox every six to nine months to refresh their look.
